Profile

As a Master of Science ETH in Robotics, Systems, and control, I am interested in advanced automatic and smart systems with a particular focus in Software, electronics, and their interactions. I am an Embedded Software Engineer at Brembo, working as a team member of the EPB Software Team, a job that I like with teammates I enjoy working with. My skills are quite horizontal, I thrive in complex systems with software controlling hardware.

Personal profile: I am a curious person, with strong ethical values and very rational. Needless to say, I am ambitious and I love hard challenges that can only be win by deeply motivated groups of people. I appreciate working side by side towards a goal with other people and I particularly love to build up motivation and to be persistent.

I officially took part in my Bachelor University FSAE Team, the Race UP Formula Student Team during years 2012 - 2013 - 2014 and I stayed in touch to counsel for the year 2015. This experience made me realize what I want to achieve in my life: work with talented and motivated people to achieve great goals.

Work Experince

July 2017 - Now

Embedded Software Engineer

Application Software Team - Brembo SpA

As a member of the Application Software EPB (Electronic Parking Brake) team I help to adapt the software stack for particular projects. I solve issues and bugs coming from different testing levels (MIL, SIL, HIL or from the vehicle) and and my main focus is to develop and improve new algorithms for the EPB platform with particular focus on Clamping Force Estimation. Here are some results during the first two years:

  • Developed, calibrated and tested software for the new Iveco MY19 vehicles (all fleet). This was performed at a ASPICE level 3 with safety critical software.
  • Became internal company responsible for all EPB Apply calibrations.
  • Integrated pressure influence to the estimation algorithm.

Prof. Mauro Zigliotto

Full Professor at University of Padova

Dear Sirs,
I am writing this reference at the request of Marco Zorzi who is applying for the admission at ETH Zurich to complete his Master degree. I have known Mr. Zorzi for one semester in my capacity as a full professor at University of Padova, Italy. Marco took my course about Fundamentals of Electrical Machines and Drives and earned midd|e—upper grade (26/30) in that class. During that course, he took part with great motivation to a wind—turbine design contest and his group (of three students) was a co—winner of the said contest. I have also been supervising Marco for his final thesis about an Electrically actuated clutch fora Formula SAE vehicle. He accomplished the task with great initiative and with a very positive attitude. In addition, he took part to the Formula SAE Project of my University, covering multiple roles with great motivation and determination. His ability to connect with other students in a team is really appreciable.

Federico Bertuol

FSAE Teammate

I met Marco when I entered the FSAE team of university of Padua, the Race Up Team. At that time he was the team leader and part of the electronic division. Even tough Marco had also technical tasks on the car, he could deeply understand the philosophy behind project management and team building strategies. Thanks to his attitude, passion and humbleness he learned how to make people fit each other and cooperate at their best, showing a clear change in the way of thinking and working compared to the previous teams. During a period in which Marco had to deal with health problems he could show how to detach professionally his job responsibilities from his private issues . With amazing willpower and strength Marco could take place to most of the activities during the 2014 car design and construction. He definitely taught me how to face such difficulties and keep pushing for my targets. Marco has been one of the most impressive person I have met during my university career. I would definitely recommend Marco to any company, as he has always been a warranty of success and an untiring worker. Of course I hope I could have myself the possibility of working with him in the future.

Master Thesis

My Master Thesis focused on studying a new hardware/software interface for AGVs (Autonomous Ground Vehicle). Although it ranged from market research, costs analysis as well as company research, the final technical piece consisted of setting up an Autonomous RC Car. It was fitted with a PX4 and its firmware was adapted for AGVs. The final demostration consisted of developing steering and accelerator controller for an autonomous GPS-based RC vehicle.

Chief Electronics

As Chief Electronics my role was to organize and coordinate 4 people during the processes of design, manufature and assembly of the Race UP Team FSAE vehicle. Also, I was in charge of representing the group in team meetings and I needed coordination with other groups. The group design objectives are: design the wire harness, set up the data logging, choose appropriate sensors, tune the ECU, design and manufacture a power management unit, design the gear shifting system with an extensive cooperatin with the engine subgroup.

Robust large-scale localization

During my 3D Photography class I teamed up with Fabian Tschopp and together we implemented the localization algorithms by Y. Li et al. in the paper "Worldwide Pose estimations using 3D point clouds". The project consisted of estimating a full 6 DOF pose given a point cloud database and a query image which needed to be localized against the point cloud.

Bachelor thesis

My Bachelor thesis goal was to design a clutch actuation system in order to help a FSAE driver to downshift the gear. I took care of data collection and of the design of a Matlab script to thermally size a Brushless DC Motor. The thesis did not put any obligation on it's implementation but I was able to have the electric motor with gearhed and control board sponsored which led to a succesful implementation. It is estimated that the Race UP Team vehicle had a gain of 3 seconds out of 75 seconds so approximately 4% of the overall performance.
